Prompt: a picture (Aerial view of Cairo.)
Notes: set post Revenge of the Fallen

He’d always wanted to see Cairo, but not like this. Not in the wake of a battle where they’d lost a lot of friends and were still picking shrapnel out of the survivors. Not when they’d disobeyed orders and were now waiting for the court martial, despite the fact that they’d saved the world. Not when he didn’t even have time to process how different the place felt from any other city he’d visited.

In a way, he appreciated that they were all waiting on the hot tarmac of a private airstrip. Kept Galloway from ruining the experience any further.

Prompt: the road is longest when one goes alone

Fig sat in his favorite chair on his mama’s back porch, watching the swamp. If he was quiet enough, and still enough, sometimes the gators would climb onto the bank where he could see them. It was illegal now, but he and his papa used to use the opportunity to shoot one for meat when he was younger.

Now he wasn’t sure his hand would ever be steady enough to shoot again.

“You know, these damn mosquitoes are going to eat you alive.” He jumped at his CO’s voice. “Your mom sent me out. Thought you could use some company.”

“So what do you do when you like someone but have no clue how to tell them that you do?”

Trini blinked and looked at Zack. “What?”

“Well there’s this girl, and I really like her. But I don’t know how to tell her that I do.”

“You should just say something.” Trini smiled at her friend. “Just be yourself and ask her to go out for a shake or something.”

“Right. Be myself. Okay, I can do that.” Zach turned back to their homework before he spoke again. “Hey, Trini? You wanna go get a shake with me sometime?”

"Three years ago, it wouldn't have bothered you to leave alone," Smith said, and Gamma knew that he was right (the smug bastard). Three years ago, Gamma would have been delighted to be leaving alone, and he probably would've gotten here a lot sooner, too, without all that human luggage to slow him down – sheer idiocy allowing the kid to tag along, really, to say nothing of that journalist. Fools, both of them. Good riddance.

Except.

"Still got you with me, don't I?"

"Indeed." Smith smiled. People had killed themselves trying to get away from that smile. "Point well made."

oh i love it! the fact that they've both acknowledged how Gamma has changed (but is still same enough) is just lovely!

Thank you very much! I really do wish this manga had been longer - or *cough* had included more Smith. (Although I suppose there's something to be said for enigmatic, mysterious characters, too. Still. I'd have loved to find out a bit more.)

oh, i do too! it had so much unexplored potential.

Prompt 5

“Line it up, people! Glorious Corps’ got better things to do than wait on your sorry asses.” Gunnery-Sergeant Apone took a second to re-align the set of his cap. “Seize the day! What you waiting on, Hudson? An engraved invitation? Musta got lost in the mail.”

“With his mail-order nuts.”

“And your mail-order looks, Drake.” Vasquez tightened the knot on her bandana, stepping into line next to the other gunner. “Seize your fuckin’ day.”

“Font of inspiration,” Hudson mumbled. “Gonna seize the day and throw it between you two.”

Vasquez grinned, punching Drake’s shoulder. “And we’ll shoot it to pieces.”

Crouching on the roof, Nyx cursed Anneke again for picking now, of all weeks, to visit her sisters. Sniper work was her job.

Something moved in the square. Nyx squinted, raised her rifle--and nearly dropped it as beetles swarmed into her mouth and eyes.

"You missed your shot," Rhys observed over the com.

"You can't keep the bugs off me, you get up here and shoot," Nyx snarled back. "Worthless excuse for a magician.

Silence.

"To your left," Rhys said, a moment before she saw the target reappear. It wasn't an apology, but she'd take it. And the shot.

Sometimes Jesse wonders what the hell he's doing with these people. There are currents and fissures between them he can't read, buttons he doesn't see until they explode.

It's not like he doesn't have friends of his own who know a thing or two about hacking cell phones and faking files. Yeah, he could put together a team.

Then he thinks about Marv, crumpled on blood-soaked pavement: reason #1 not to pull friends into this line of work. And if it's a choice between Michael's team or working alone--well, he'll take feeling like an outsider. Better that than dead.

Prompt: picture of Cairo

It had been years since Black Jack had been to Cairo. He at least remembered how to thank the hotel staff in their language. His appearance attracted attention, especially the black cloak in this heat, but that never stopped.

His patient awaited in a wealthy neighborhood. He would pay whatever the unlicensed doctor chose to charge, which was plenty. But he had another letter in his pocket, a plea from someone in another part of Cairo.

That patient he would treat for the challenge, he told himself. But really, sometimes integrity mattered more than being the great Dr. Black Jack.

..I think I got it right this time.
----

Single handedly her husband had destroyed the standing of their family and the faith that Lord Apophis had once had in them.

Her Teal'c had betrayed their family and Lord Apophis to join with the Tau'ri.

It was thanks to him that she would now have to work hard to regain the faith of Lord Apophis. It was her hope that his faith in them be restored and it that would be to secure her son a place in the coming Prim'ta ceremony.

She would ensure that her family regained its footing and honor in the eyes of Lord Apophis.

Friction, Bleach, Renji (prompt 7)

There were many things Renji knew he would never forgive Kuchiki Byakuya for – that time when Renji'd been drunk and he'd crashed into a wall instead of into his Captain (which would have been awkward, okay, but not actually painful), that time when Renji'd been hung-over and hadn't been excused from duties that morning in spite of clearly demonstrating that he was, in fact, sick and unfit for duty, that time when – well. There'd been rather a lot of incidents, was the point.

Byakuya's having taken Rukia and making himself her family was just one small part of it, really.

One of the first things Lando discovers in life: there's a sucker born every minute.

If he doesn't take advantage of it, someone else will. Simple as that, really. It helps that he's good at what he does, too.

Know when to quit is something he picks up later in life. Often, it's not even that the other guy is better. It's just that there's sore losers, and really sore losers. The first are annoying, the second more trouble than the stakes are worth, generally.

Of course, you can't quit anything without starting something first. You must seize the day

Thank you! He's done some less-than-smart things over time (*cough* Cloud City *cough*), but I do love the guy.
