Crouching on the roof, Nyx cursed Anneke again for picking now, of all weeks, to visit her sisters. Sniper work was her job.

Something moved in the square. Nyx squinted, raised her rifle--and nearly dropped it as beetles swarmed into her mouth and eyes.

"You missed your shot," Rhys observed over the com.

"You can't keep the bugs off me, you get up here and shoot," Nyx snarled back. "Worthless excuse for a magician.

Silence.

"To your left," Rhys said, a moment before she saw the target reappear. It wasn't an apology, but she'd take it. And the shot.
