Prompt: Undoing what has been done

“No idea what that pulse was,” she says, “but it really did a number on the whole system. It'll take time. Or a miracle.”

“We don't have time,” Kirk says, and he's frightened, and he's right.

She bites her lip, breathes out, seeks calm and mostly finds it. Feels wires coiled beneath her hands, already working, cutting, reconnecting. Sirens wail somewhere, and the ship lurches beneath her feet, shudders like a schooner in a maelstrom. Enemy fire. Shields holding, for now. Focus. Focus.

“Make time,” she says, and I – “I'll give you your miracle.”

Prompt: Two truths and a lie

Too much time in Vector always leaves him restive.

He'd grown up here, remembers how the city looked before its transformation by technology, before it had been Vector. It isn't home now, and he's never certain whether to call that a loss or a mercy. But he remembers this city besieged, faltering but never falling, so long ago.

Vector is secure these days – his kingdom, his Empire. He fights a different war now, one that will bring peace, prosperity, if only he can fight well enough to end it.

Leo remembers loyalty, remembers honor. Wills himself to believe it.

prompt: cup of coffee

There’s something almost orgasmic, to Rachel, about a properly brewed cup of coffee.

She lifts the coffee to her face, eyes closed, every sense turned off but one, and sniffs. The aromatic beans, hot and bitter, tickle her nose and send shivers through her body. The sugar and milk, immediately following it, calm her and smooth her down. She throws her head back and gulps air, breathing, reacting to her own reaction. But she doesn’t turn her nose off.

She sniffs slowly until the coffee cools down. Then she turns on her taste buds and takes a single, perfect sip.

“I mean, it’s Penelope’s decision.”

“You owe me those grandbabies! Let me talk to her, Derek.”

Morgan lifted the phone from his ear and turned his face to the left, where Penelope Garcia was nestled, ever-so-comfortably, in his arm. He wondered, again, why it had taken him so long to get her there. “You want to talk to her?” he mouthed.

“Of course!” She smiled hugely and practically snatched the phone from his hand. He just watched her as she leaned back and started to speak, his heart full of love.

Sam takes his coffee black in a blue paper cup from the diner. Bitter, not hot but scalding. He considers it more medicine than beverage.

He's grown, he can get his own coffee.

He doesn't *say* that, of course. Eli's proffering this mug of frothy who-knows-what with both hands cupped around its sides. His expression is serious, mouth tight with concentration, but his eyes --.

Big brown child's eyes, alight with the sort of hope only possessed by the likes of Steve Rogers.

Sam takes the coffee.

"I need training." Eli holds his breath as Sam chokes.

Gus knows he could have opted for something different, something a little more normal and a little less involving dead bodies and people trying to kill him and (most of all) a lot less Shawn. He could have found a girlfriend, gotten a mortgage to buy a house, nearly bankrupted himself throwing a wedding none of his family members would be impressed by. That sort of stuff.

By now, he could have been living a nice, quiet little life where the most exciting thing that ever happens is ComiCon.

He could have settled for settling down. (He's chosen not to.)

"The finest minds in all the world are gathered in this town and yet this is still the only place where we can get a decent cup of coffee."

Henry smiled. "I'd have to say that either Vincent is a genius – which, as you'll probably agree with me, he most definitely is – "

Allison nodded, sipped her coffee, nodded again. "Or?"

"Or," Henry went on, "there is a higher power at work to make sure that no matter how great we think our ideas are, the simple needs of our body will serve to keep us humble. Well, relatively humble."

"Of course, it's not like I'm in love with Van. Half the time, I don't even like the guy. He just – he says he wants to be friends, but then when you tell him things about yourself, secret, really personal things, all he does is crack jokes and give you a hard time about them."

Billie nodded slowly, her expression oozing sympathy and understanding. "Another drink?"

Deaq silently held up his empty-again glass.

"So," Billie said, leaning back while taking a sip of her own drink, "tell me. What kind of secret, really personal things are we talking about here?"

Kendra poked at the cup after the waiter set it down. “What is this?”

“It’s a cappuccino,” Buffy said brightly. “Like coffee, but with a kick.”

“We do not have such things where I come from.” Carefully the dark skinned slayer sipped at her drink the way her companion did.

“You don’t seem to have a lot of things where you come from.” The American Slayer frowned. “That’s kind of sad.”

“No. You are just… the spoiled Slayer. Most of us did not have “real lives” before we were called.” Kendra sipped her drink again to hide her own frown.

Sometimes, being a lieutenant meant making hard decisions, ones that you knew could get people killed.

And sometimes, also, it simply meant that, after a hard day's work, you got to be the one to bring the captain a cup of coffee in the hopes that he'd get the hint.

"Coffee, sir?"

As far as hints and Captain Gideon went, a cup of coffee was about as subtle as a Drakh invasion.

"Thank you, lieutenant, don't mind if I do." One sip, eyes closed. "Oh, and let's make sure everyone's all nice and fresh again tomorrow, shall we?"

"Yes, sir."

This is great, and so in character!
